TPLF Condemns CoHA Guarantors Over Tigray Crisis
The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has criticized the guarantors of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) – the US, AU, EU, and UN – for allowing the continuation of what it describes as a “silent genocide” in Tigray. In an urgent appeal, the TPLF urged the international community to prevent further destruction, alleging that the Federal Government has failed to implement key CoHA commitments, including the withdrawal of non-federal armed groups from Tigray and the safe return of displaced people. The TPLF further claims that hundreds of displaced individuals have died due to hunger, disease, and lack of protection.
US Criticizes Ethiopia’s Urban Corridor Development
The US State Department has criticized Ethiopia’s urban corridor development project, warning that the displacement it has caused has weakened investment interests. The report states that many business owners and residents were evicted without prior notice and under coercion. Additionally, it highlights corruption and property confiscation by armed groups in conflict-affected areas of Amhara and Oromia regions, which has forced some business owners to abandon their operations.
Ethiopian Central Bank Adjusts Credit Ceiling Growth
The National Bank of Ethiopia has raised the credit ceiling growth target for the banking sector from 18% to 24% for the 2025/26 fiscal year, postponing the full removal of the credit ceiling initially planned for September 2025. The Monetary Policy Committee emphasized that the ceiling remains a key tool to ensure financial stability and maintain a tight monetary policy. Inflation remains at 13.6%, while imports of semi-finished and consumer goods have declined. The committee praised the central bank for refraining from disbursing loans to the government to offset the budget deficit during the first two months of the fiscal year.
Opposition Parties Report Drone Attack in North Wollo
A coalition of five opposition parties, including the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), All Ethiopia Unity Party (AEUP), Enat Party, One Ethiopia Democratic Party, and Amhara Ghionawi Movement, reported that three civilians were killed in a drone attack on a health center in Sanqa town, North Wollo zone, Amhara region, on September 27, 2025. A nonmedical worker and a six-year-old child were seriously injured, while three healthcare workers sustained minor injuries. The coalition called for an immediate end to armed conflict in the region, noting ongoing fighting between government forces and the Fano militia.
Eritrea Rejects External Mediation on Port Access
Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh rejected external mediation over the commercial use of Eritrean ports, describing such involvement as politically unacceptable. Speaking at the Landlocked Developing Countries ministerial meeting in New York, Saleh emphasized that Eritrea is willing to negotiate commercial or logistical use of its ports directly with selected partners but will not allow foreign military or naval bases. He stated that the issue of port access is commercial, not political or military, and reiterated Eritrea’s commitment to fair and equal arrangements with partners.
