Five Killed in Oromia Border Attacks
Five people were killed and six others injured on September 11,2025 in Chinaqsen (East Hararge) and Doba (West Hararge) districts, Oromia region, in attacks allegedly carried out by Somali regional security forces. The violence follows similar incidents on the previous day and is linked to rising tensions in border areas after the Somali regional government decided to establish new administrative structures, including Moyale town, claimed by the Oromia regional administration.Somali ONLF Blames Authorities for National Exam Failure
The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) faction led by Abdirahman Mahadi criticized the Ethiopian government and Somali regional authorities for discriminatory practices and corruption, which they say contributed to disastrous results in the 2025 12th-grade national examinations. Of 16,779 students in the Somali region, only 462 passed. Nationally, only 48,929 of 581,905 students (8.4%) passed. Ethiopia's Minister of Education, Prof. Berhanu Nega, attributed the crisis in higher education to political influence and overemphasis on quantity over quality, which has hindered universities from producing capable public servants. He emphasized ongoing reforms aimed at specializing universities in certain fields to produce the highly skilled workforce needed for national development.
