Ethiopia Sets Record Coffee Export Revenue
Ethiopia earned a record $2.653 billion from coffee exports during the 2024/25 fiscal year, exporting 468,967 tonnes of coffee. The revenue achieved was 147% of the initial target, while the export volume reached 144% of the expected amount, marking the highest coffee revenue in the country’s history. Major buyers of Ethiopian coffee include Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, contributing significantly to the country's economic growth.
Human Rights Watch Calls for Dialogue on Healthcare Workers' Demands
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has urged Ethiopian authorities to engage in meaningful dialogue with healthcare workers who have been demanding improved working conditions, better salaries, and legal protections against harassment and political intimidation. HRW criticized the government’s current approach, calling it indicative of Ethiopia's inhospitable environment for dissent. The organization also called for the immediate release of Dr. Daniel Fentaneh, a gynecologist at Bahir Dar University Teaching Hospital, who has been accused of inciting and organizing healthcare workers for a strike that allegedly led to loss of life.

The Eritrean government has rejected Ethiopia's recent statements at the UN Human Rights Council, where Ethiopia accused Eritrea of posing a threat to its sovereignty and national security. Eritrean envoy to the UN, Habtom Zerai, dismissed the claims as contradictory to Ethiopia's past actions and statements regarding the UN Special Rapporteur on Eritrea. Zerai accused Ethiopia of using the statements to cover up its ambitions for maritime access, further asserting that Eritrea had never controlled Ethiopian sovereign territories, dismissing such claims as fabrications designed to incite conflict.
Salsay Weyane Tigray Accuses Abiy Ahmed of War Threats
The opposition group Salsay Weyane Tigray has accused Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of using threats of a more catastrophic war in his recent address to the Federal Parliament. The party condemned the Federal Government’s failure to implement the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) and warned that Tigray’s situation is worsening due to this ongoing disagreement with the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). They urged the African Union (AU) to take urgent action, stating that another round of conflict would pose a grave threat to the Tigray population.
