Deme Tullu, Head of the ruling Prosperity Party’s Political Organization in Hidebu Abote district, North Shewa zone, Oromia region, was killed in an attack by gunmen on October 6 while on official fieldwork. Several accompanying government security personnel were also killed. Residents have attributed the attack to the rebel Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). A region-wide consultative conference of over 3,000 delegates, including members of the Interim Regional Administration (IRA) and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), has warned of the looming threat of war over Tigray and Eritrea. The conference called on the people of Eritrea to cooperate with Tigray for peace and urged the Federal Government to lay down arms and engage in dialogue to resolve political differences. The Tigray Interim Regional Administration (IRA) has accused federal institutions of deliberately misrepresenting West Tigray as part of Amhara region. The Ministry of Agriculture was cited as the latest example for referring to the area as “Wolkayt Tegede Setit Humera Zone,” terminology often used by Amhara regional authorities. The IRA warned that it may pursue legal action if federal authorities fail to prevent such violations, emphasizing that the issue has become a recurring pattern.Amhara Schools Disrupted by Armed Conflict
Of the 7.4 million students expected in Amhara region for the 2025/26 academic year, 3.96 million have failed to enrol, according to regional education authorities. Out of 11,069 schools, 2,445 remain closed, and 1,044 have been used for illegal activities amid the ongoing armed conflict between Federal Government forces and the Fano militia.
